The Botswana Information Technology Society (BITS) is the country's registered professional body for ICT practitioners, established in 1994 under the Societies Act. It represents the interests of ICT professionals across Botswana, advocating for the profession while shaping regulatory and standards frameworks for the technology sector. BITS offers five membership grades, from Student to Fellow, catering to individuals at every stage of their ICT career as well as corporate organisations.
It leads initiatives on ICT professional registration, competency standards and codes of ethics, while hosting events such as the annual ICT Summit, Gala Dinner and the TICON Africa Conference. Based at the Botswana Innovation Hub in Gaborone, BITS also provides news updates, resources and programmes supporting diversity, including women in technology initiatives.
