Legal Aid Botswana is a statutory body corporate established in January 2015 under the Legal Aid Act, and affiliated to the Ministry of Justice. It provides legal advice, representation and legal education to indigent citizens, permanent residents and recognised refugees who cannot afford private legal services. Applicants are assessed through a means test to determine eligibility for assistance.
The organisation offers services in family law, land issues, labour law, damages, contractual claims, criminal legal aid for minors, and inheritance law, including wills and estate administration. Services are delivered through in-house lawyers and outsourced private attorneys operating from offices in Gaborone, Francistown, Tsabong, Kasane, Maun and Palapye.
